What happens if I need to cancel the booking or return the vehicle early?
If you return your vehicle earlier than expected then no refund applies. If you do not advise Rental Car Depot that you wish to cancel your booking then we reserves the right to charge you a 20% Cancellation fee. If you cancel less than 72 hours before you want to pick up the vehicle then we reserve the right to charge you the full amount of the hire. If you have an emergency or some other reason you need to leave the country early your travel insurance should cover this.

Does Rental Car Depot offer one-way hires?
We do offer one way hires to certain locations subject to availability.

How can I pay for my hire?
Rental Car Depot accepts all major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard. We also accept American Express but there is 4% surcharge. You may also pay by New Zealand Dollars or some locations do offer eftpos facilities.

Do I have to pay a deposit when making a booking?
Yes we do require a 10% deposit to secure our great rates.

What is included in the rates on your website?
Our rates include unlimited mileage, GST Tax, standard insurance & free 24 hour Roadside assistance provided by AA.

What happens if I breakdown?
In the unfortunate event your vehicle breaks down and we cannot get this fixed within a reasonable time frame or it is not fixable will get a replacement vehicle to you within 24 hours! If this is not possible then we will make other arrangements for you to continue your hire with another company at your location, so that you are able to continue your trip without a hassle.

Can I pick up or drop off a vehicle after hours?
Yes! We do offer a late pick up and early drop off service and there may be a fee for this service. For more information please email us and we can send you through the accurate details for your specific situation.

If I want to extend my vehicle hire period is this possible?
Nine times out of ten this is possible and our friendly staff will be able to help you with this subject to availability. If you are hiring for longer it will be at that original rate. If the vehicle is not available for extension it must be returned to the correct location on the correct date. Failure to do so may result in a fee up to $500.

I don't have a credit card, can I still hire a car?
Yes you can still hire a car but you must leave either a bank cheque of $1000 for the excess or $1000 cash. If you are wanting to use another persons credit card as security then we will need to have a signed declaration from the card holder stating "I, (card holders name), give authorisation to Rental Car Depot (2009) Limited to use my (card type) Card as security for insurance purposes in the hire of (name of driver / Hirer) for the dates (date of hire)". This needs to be faxed at least 3 days before the commencement of the hire and the funds need to be available if an accident does occur.

Can I leave a vehicle in Wellington/Picton and pick another up on the other side to avoid taking the vehicle across on the ferry?
We prefer all customers to take there vehicles on the ferry with them as this as this saves time changing over vehicles, transferring luggage and doing new contracts! This way you can just drive on - enjoy your ferry crossing - and drive off on arrival to continue your journey. We have great rates on ferry deals - please email us for current prices.
